Did you wake up with several bite marks on your body from bed bugs? If so, you'll be looking for ways that you can get rid of them for good. Here are some tips for getting rid of bed bugs

Seal Infected Items

The first thing you'll want to do is seal off any items that you feel are infected with bed bugs. Start putting your bedding, clothes, and pillows in plastic bags, which will help ensure that the bed bugs are trapped in the bag until you're ready to treat them. Not sealing infected items can cause bed bugs to spread elsewhere in your home.

Wash Your Sheets

The trick to killing bed bugs that could be hiding in your sheets is to wash them at the hottest setting possible. This may be problematic if your sheets require cold water to wash them, but heat is the only way that you will actually kill the bed bugs. You might as well try washing sensitive items on a hot temperature setting or just get rid of them. Dry the sheets on the hottest setting possible as well. Running sheets through both of these cycles should be enough to kill the bed bugs.

Freeze Your Pillows

Chances are that your pillows are not going to survive the washing machine, which is why you have to find an alternate method to kill bed bugs that could be in them. Thankfully, extreme cold will also kill off bed bugs that could be hiding inside. Just place the entire pillow, which is still sealed in a bag, into your deep freezer. The temperatures should be below 0°F or else it is not going to work at killing off the bed bugs. Leave the pillow in there for at least 4 days, after which the pillow will be safe to take out and use again

Hire An Exterminator

If the bed bugs have spread beyond your bedding, you'll need professional help to get rid of them. Reach out to a local exterminator that specializes in dealing with bed bugs. They can use heat methods on a much larger scale throughout rooms of your house or use pesticides that will kill the pests off for good. This may be the only option for cleaning large items, such as mattresses and couches, which are impractical to wash or freeze. Leaving the pests to an exterminator is the best way to ensure the bed bugs are gone for good.
